🌏 Real world responses to a world in crisis

Our friends are hosting an event at 1RG that you may like!

The time for merely diagnosing the world’s problems has passed.

Across the globe, people are rolling up their sleeves—building new governance models, experimenting with regenerative economies, designing better education systems, healing communities, and confronting AI risk, spiritual fragmentation, and ecological collapse head-on.

But most of these responses remain invisible to one another.

"Responses to the Metacrisis" is a gathering for those who are already in motion. People working on grounded, real-world projects who want to connect, collaborate, and learn from each other’s lived experience.

፨ Platform Politics: Reflecting on Toronto's History with Tech Giants

1RG Member Khasir is speaking on a panel called "Platform Politics: Reflecting on Toronto's History with Tech Giants" at UofT.

Luke Yates, a Sociology professor from the University of Manchester who studies social movements, consumption and technology, has recently published Platform Politics, a book that brings together his original research on how technology platforms like Airbnb, Uber, and meal delivery platforms, are engaging in a new form of corporate lobbying, going beyond traditional astroturfing, to insert themselves into debates around regulations, the future of cities and even the democratic process itself.

In each destination, local organizers and community groups involved in platform-related struggles organize events to dive into platform politics with an audience of community members, activists, organizers, academics, policy makers, and politicians.

Khasir will be on this panel as part of his role at Technologists for Democracy.

🗓️ Tuesday, September 4th, 5-7pm
