What's happening in October

Machinery of strange purposes pepper our modern landscape like spirits and stories. Media-makers (cameras, thermal sensors, microphones), cell towers, broadcasting gateways, transcribe our souls onto tablets to auction to the agents of unseen moneyed classes (judgement is dispensed according to their whims). Transformers, utility poles, carry dangerous and important energies. Underground piping and cabling is demarcated surface-wise with fairy rings of coloured flags.

Fabric Unconference, 2026

Fabric is an unconference for technologists interested in developing tools and practices that protect human autonomy in the face of increasing automation. Attendees collectively set the agenda on Friday night, then spend Saturday in participant-led discussions and workshops

Choice: autonomy in a automated world.
​Technology is deeply woven in all aspects of modern life. It promises lives that are better, easier, and faster, it also quietly asks something of us: our attention, information, resources, cognition, and even how we relate.

​This year's Fabric explores how, as technologists, we navigate the tradeoffs between these two pulls, and intentionally build technology that supports individual and collective autonomy in the midst of an increasingly automated world.

Kernel Mag Vol. 6 Launch Party

Kernel Magazine is an annual print publication by Reboot, a community reimagining techno-optimism for a better collective future. In a landscape dominated by either fatalistic views of the irredeemability of technology or by optimism weaponized as hype where venture-backed bandages are presented as all-encompassing solutions, Kernel Magazine articulates an alternate vision: a critical analysis of technological progress and regress while still charting a path forward.

Community Dinners are a mainstay of the 1RG programming. We're food lovers and we think that there's no better way to make friends than sharing a delicious meal.

We’ll be serving a home-cooked vegetarian dinner. All you have to bring is yourself, and any alcoholic beverages you may wish to have with dinner.

The Tiny Expo is a monthly collation of demos and work-in-progress from the membership. The demos run before our weekly lunch on first Wednesday of the month. Pitch a demo to Andrew or Luke or show up with a demo in hand!
