Welcome Morgan

This week, I joined the team as the community & ops person. I write html and collect graphics and texts on are.na. Academically, I'm interested in computing and politics and the frameworks that permeate/uphold these milieux.

I'll be writing these newsletters from now on, as well as helping out with any and all community needs. I'm always reachable via email.

Side Project Socials resume their bi-weekly schedule every other Thursday night. Hosted by Henry, they are a chance to hang out with others while working on your side project, with an optional final show and tell.

A co-working session with out friends from Civic Tech TO, we're opening our space to folks working on projects addressing civic challenges with technology.
We welcome participants from all backgrounds and skill levels. I’m Whether you're a seasoned developer, a curious beginner, or someone passionate about civic issues, your unique perspective and contribution are valuable to our community. You can read more about what's it like here.

𓊓 Community Dinner # 84

Community Dinners are a mainstay of the 1RG programming. We're food lovers and we think that there's no better way to make friends than sharing a delicious meal.

We’ll be serving a home-cooked vegetarian dinner. All you have to bring is yourself, and any alcoholic beverages you may wish to have with dinner.

🝮 Fundraiser: Common Boots Theatre

Serena recently joined the board of local not-for-profit Common Boots Theatre. Join her this August for a really fun evening and to support the work of a great local theatre company and the many artists it employs.

Common Boots Theatre has been part of the Canadian theatre community for over 40 years and creates original comedies about the issues of the time. Common Boots Theatre is throwing the SUMMER BASH, a community fundraiser event with music, delicious food from Tita Flips, a silent auction, special performances from past and current Common Boots’ artists (including a little preview of the December show Raccoon Solstice!), and the 2026/27 season announcement.

⚘ Tiny Expo

The Tiny Expo is a monthly collation of demos and work-in-progress from the membership. The demos run before our weekly lunch on first Wednesday of the month. Pitch a demo to Andrew or Luke or show up with a demo in hand!

Your membership now includes access to the West End Tool Library, which is just across the tracks, in the George Chuvalo Community Centre.

To access the tool library:

  1. Create an account at wetoollibrary.ca/tools.
  2. Email Chris at info@wetoollibrary.ca and let him know you're a 1RG member.
  3. That's it! Chris will set you up with an annual membership.

♫ Pass the Aux Friday

On the last Friday of every month, the aux cord belongs to everyone. Add your tracks ahead of time on the event page, show up, and let's do some seating-in-a-chair dancing.
