A new community membership

Have you wondered what the difference is between a 1RG Member and a Friend of 1RG? We have too, and we finally have an answer: there isn’t one.

TL;DR: We’re folding Friends of 1RG into regular 1RG memberships, simplifying pricing by combining all the old ‘Friends’ memberships under a single, $50/month option, and renaming the plans to be VERY OBVIOUS.

Have you wondered what the difference is between a 1RG Member and a Friend of 1RG? We have too, and we finally have an answer: there isn’t one.

A few months back, I wrote a post describing Friends of 1RG as an experiment that taught us that 1RG is more about bringing people together and building community than providing a shared workspace. That finding led us to formalizing Friends into the 3-tier program, with expanded benefits. It was only after running this new shiny program for a few months that we recognized that differentiating between Members and Friends of 1RG is becoming increasingly difficult:

  • Friends of 1RG are invited to all our private community events (Wednesday lunch, Cinq á Sept, Holiday party etc.) and usually have priority on events that are open to the public
  • Like members, Friends of 1RG receive insider information on 1RG, including our quarterly financial reports

The only tangible difference is that Friends of 1RG don’t use the space for co-working very often. We want to honour this by officially including Friends of 1RG into our Membership.

Starting today, we’re retiring the term Friends of 1RG, which I’m sure was confusing to many, and simplifying our membership offer into 3 simple tiers.

End of year membership drive

With these changes, we think now's a great time to try membership if you've been curious. We're offering a free 2-weeks trial in November to anyone interested in joining our community. Whether you've been meaning to check us out, or you know someone who should be here, grab a spot - and if you sign up for a membership before the end of the year, your first month is on us.

FAQs

Does this make membership less accessible?
Finances should never be a barrier to being part of the community! If you're interested in becoming a member but cost is a concern, we can offer a sliding scale. In the past we've also come up with skill share agreements and we'd be happy to have a conversation about this - email us at community@1rg.space

I want to support the community but membership doesn't make sense for me, do you take donations?
We think that there are always going to be friends of the community who aren't paying members, and we don't want to monetize those relationships. You can be a friend of the 1RG community without any financial commitment!
